On 6 March 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi organized an open economic seminar "Investment at Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor -Make in Thailand by Indians for India” to promote investment opportunities for Indian private sector in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) development zone of Thailand . The seminar featured keynote speakers, including (1) H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Special Advisor on Foreign Affairs of the EEC Office and (2) Mr. Nanthapol Sudbanthad, Director-Consul, Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI), Mumbai office. Additionally, Indian private sector representatives with business interests in Thailand participated in the seminar as speakers, including Dr. Rajiv Chhibber, Vice President of Sahajanand Medical Technology Limited, a medical equipment manufacturing company, and Mr. Prashant Choubey, Chairman of Avaada Group, a renewable energy company. Over 30 members of Indian private sector interested in investing in Thailand attended the seminar.

On this occasion, the special advisor summarized the opportunities for investment in the EEC as area with potential to attract foreign investment in various sectors such as information technology, digital, advanced automotive, and medical technologies. Dedicated office for EEC has been established to oversee the development of the area holistically, and a royal decree has been issued specifically for this purpose, granting authority to approve benefits and incentives for investment expeditiously and independently. Considering that India is a country with high economic growth and has companies specializing in various fields such as medicine and information technology, expanding investment abroad, in particular EEC, will help promote value-addition in the Indian supply chain, complementing India's self-reliant policy. Moreover, investment in Thailand will also enhance the potentails of trade and investment between Thailand, as the current trade and investment with India are still relatively low compared to other major trading partners of Thailand. The Director of the Office of BOI also provided supporting information on the investment climate in Thailand, the country's economic situation, services, and investment incentives that the BOI can provide to interested investors.

On the same occasion, Dr. Rajiv, the Vice President of Sahajanand Medical Technology, also provided information about investing in Thailand from Sahajanand’s experience in investment in manufacturing facility in Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province, Thailand, producing medical equipment related to heart disease and coronary arteries. He stated that the licensing process in Thailand is straightforward and can be easily done to start a business or invest. The BOI office provides excellent assistance, making them confident in Thailand and expanding investments to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), which is the third research and development institute after India and Ireland. Additionally, Mr. Prashant, who works for Avaada, a renewable energy company in India, encouraged those interested in investing in Thailand from his experience working closely with Thai people, seeing that they are good business partners with plans and professionalism.

The Open Economic Seminar aims to provide information to potential Indian investors to make it easier for them to make investment decisions in Thailand, especially in sectors where Thailand seeks to attract investment from India. The seminar is one of the activities of Thailand-India Business Information Center under the Royal Thai Embassy, whose main mission is to provide comprehensive information on trade and investment to the private sectors of both Thailand and India, through activities held throughout the year and on the website thaiindia.net.
