On 9 October 2017, the 19 members Thai delegation led by Mr. Thana Promduang, Director of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) is visiting New Delhi to participate in the 1st BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise, 2017 (BIMSTEC DMEx 2017) hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs India during 10-13 October 2017.
The inaugural session this morning was presided by Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Director General, National Disaster Response Force of India. Also presence and delivering remarks were Shri Rajnath Singh, Honorable Union Home Minister, Chief Guest, H.E. Mr. M. Shahidul Islam, Secretary of BIMSTEC and H.E. Mrs. Preeti Saran, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, India.
Recalling the BIMSTEC Leaders’ Retreat in Goa in October 2016 where the leaders decided for closer cooperation on disaster management, this 1st BIMSTEC DMEx is a collective result to translate leaders’ decision to action. There are approximately 150 participants from 7 BIMSTEC countries including Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Thailand to join the exercise.
