On 7 May 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi organized the “Namaste Thailand Quiz - NTQ2026 (1st Edition)” at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium in Guwahati, Assam. More than 150 students from 25 schools in Guwahati and nearby areas across Assam participated in the competition.

On this occasion, Ms. Kanokporn Kunnawattana, Minister Counsellor, delivered the opening remarks expressing its great pleasure in selecting Guwahati as the first venue outside New Delhi to host the NTQ, in recognition of Assam’s important role in Thailand-India relations, particularly the close “Pi-Nong” or brotherly ties rooted in shared history and the Tai ethnic communities, which continue to be reflected in culture, cuisine, and language today.

In addition, Assam serves as a gateway to India’s Northeast Region (NER), where young people have shown strong interest in Thai culture, including tourism, T-pop, and Y series.
The winners of this edition’s competition were Mr. Neeraj and Mr. Ankit from St. Vivekananda English Academy. Both students, together with their teacher, will receive an educational trip to Thailand, where they will join the winners of NTQ2026 (2nd Edition) from New Delhi and NCR.

The Namaste Thailand Quiz - NTQ2026 (1st Edition) in Guwahati marked the first time that the competition has been organized outside New Delhi and also the 12th consecutive edition of the NTQ. The continued success of the project reflects its important role in promoting knowledge and understanding of Thailand among Indian youth in various dimensions, including culture, history, and the economy.
